View Full Version : What are windshield spreader bars?
Reading the RCRocs class 1 rules:
COMPLETE factory cage or add-on aftermarket cage a must IF the stock roof has been modified or vehicle has a soft top. ALL vehicles must have windshield spreader bars (sorry CJ guys!).
All Windshields must be upright and tied-in as factory, if not then a front passenger cage addition MUST be added along with a spreader bar. Windshield area must be solid and safe to be allowed to run without a cage front hoop. This is subject to marshall inspection at any time.
What bars are they referring to?

Sounds like they are talking about the spreader bar that runs across the width of the Jeep stock roll cage up by the top of the windshield.

I've got two thoughts....
Either a vertical bar in the middle of the windshield going down to the dash bar
or because it seems directed at TJ's just a bar going across the top of the windshield because don't factory cages for TJ's just tie into the windshield frame at the front?

Its class 1 so a stock roll cage works. You dont or shouldnt need the vertical bar. They said sorry CJ guys because they dont have the streamers from the B pillar up to the A pillar. A TJ and maybe YJ has a spreader that runs across the top of the A pillars from the driver side to the passenger side. Along with the little feet that tie the windshield to the cage.
You can see it just above/behind the windshield in this pic.

I believe they are talking about the 2 bars in a stock yj cage that connect b pillar to windshield. CJs didnt come with them.
This would be a legal cage.

Correct, and this would be an illegal cage:

So as long as there is a full cage, with its own A & B pillars, it does not need to be tied into the windshield?
