The both look pretty much the same to me. Only thing I couldnt tell is if you get a variety of shims in the 4wd kit. I would imagine so but you cant tell from the pic.
Manufacturer Part #s are almost the same... betting it is the same thing.

Call AOI, they can probably get you a deal on the quadratec kit.
Did you tear it apart yet?

I pulled it out and took off the cover. It was way low on fluid, and the fluid inside was BURNT. It had leaked on the very bottom cover, and the dirt in the skid plate sucked up all of the fluid. It's almost impossible to tell the level of a 300 when it's clocked flat (gears are right at the fill hole). There were some metal flakes in it. It spins just find in neutral, but extremely hard in low. I still can't get it to shift to high range.

FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWK.
I'm hoping JB Conversions will sell one gear. One of the gears is wasted, along with the rear output shaft. Soooooooooooooooooooooooooo....I need a D300 for a few parts and a rear output gear as part of my 4:1 kit.

If one gear is bad, you need to really inspect the gear it rides on.

He did. 50 and 52 ground together and got chewed up and were working on welding themselves together. The right side of 46 in this pic mushroomed inside of 52 and they had to be worked over to pull them apart then 46 had to be hit with the grinder to knock down the edge to get 68 off. This let him get the snap ring off to check out 50.
So he needs 46, 50 and 52. The rebuild kit has the rest. That was pretty much the only damage and why the case wouldnt shift into high. #20 was hitting a wall of metal trying to couple 50 and 52. Everything else looked pretty good but those parts were burnt and black and chewed up a bit. Case stinks too.

Sorry Dan, but it's time for an Atlas.
frosty

Personally it would be difficult for me to justify an Atlas based on what happened. Its only damaged because it ran out of fluid. Nothing really broke or cracked or busted due to abuse or not being strong enough. Run an Atlas out of fluid and you are in the same boat.
But I dont have the money to swing an Atlas so it would be an easy choice.

I was gonna say let the same thing happen with an atlas and the parts are probably more expensive.

The cost is the hell with with the Atlas. If JB comes through, I should be able to get it back together for less than $500.

They eventually called me back. This is the bum gear. They think they have one sitting around to sell me. I should find out tomorrow.

If I read this correctly, the only part that isn't stock is #50. I am pretty sure I have what he needs. I am going to leave a case w/gears in Mt Airy on Saturday morning. Will you be around Frosty? If not I can leave it with Jack.

Yep, you read it correct. I'll be around all day Saturday so stop on by.

Thanks, Alan and Frosty. I'm hoping JB comes though and overnights the input gear. We'll keep the fingers crossed.

I checked this morning and I have all the stock parts, but not the lomax gear. I'll drop the case by Frosty's Saturday morning.

Alan, the gears that are in dans case now, were the lowmax gears that were in my 300. I didnt remember that until just now

Dan and I came full circle on that. He told me he had your old gears, then I talked to you and I thought I had your old gears, then I opened up the case I had and found the truth.
For the price I paid you for the case I wasn't expecting to find 4:1 gears in it, but it would have been a nice bonus.

Thanks for dropping off that case, Alan. We ended up needing to use the rear output because the case I just bought had twisted splines. :dan1:
Again, big thanks to Frosty.

We ran into yet another problem last night. How much is too much play on the big gear on the front output? The bearing is seated TIGHT as it should be, but the gear has a lot more play in it compared to a stock setup. Any ideas?

give some part #'s with the problem.
I know the outputs flop all around before you crank the yokes down
frosty

39, 20, 21 and 22. 21 has some play between the gear on 39 and the bearing (22). You can clearly see that 22 is fully seated onto 39 so the question we had was whether or not 21 was damaged or 39 was damaged. We did not notice any damage to either when we pulled it apart.
We are talking having about .005" gap on a stock setup and another 4:1 D300 vs .010" gap (maybe slightly more but certainly less than .015"). It might not be significant at all but it was different than the other two we had sitting there. It also wont tighten up that particular gear when you set the front output play/preload.

I have never seen or dealt with a more pain in the ass pile of D300 parts ever. This shit should be easy.
