I got cleared to use my repaired elbow "normally" finally, so I had the jeep out in the driveway yesterday cleaning it up a bit and fixing some little crap so I can get it out here soon. I pulled it half into the garage and let it run a bit as I normally do.
I ran in to get a beverage, come out and it smells like gas? I look under the rear drivers side tire and right where the front of the leaf spring mounts there is a gas leak? Threw down some soakup crap after I turned it off, but with all the crud up there I assume it's either a line/filter I can't see up in there.
Any thoughts or tips for what to/not to do until the problem is located? Never dealt with a gas leak before and I don't want to fawk around with my kids playing around the heep and all...
Thanks for reading!

Light the gas with a match to reduce the risk of future fires.

Or dramatically increase your productivity/efficiency and just use a small torch.
If it's not running, it won't leak. Probably a clogged filter.

Just above the rear driver's side tire is where the fuel filter is on the YJ's. You might have a bum line or a plugged up filter. You can probably just turn the key to the on position and crawl under there (quickly) to see where its coming from. IIRC, the fuel filter has a little "skid plate" that it sits in back there.

I had a filter on mine that was two pieces pressed/crimped together. It leaked at the seam.

That's where the fuel filter is on a YJ and there is a little cover/shield covering it. The lines going in & out of the filter are rubber. Check them for cuts, dry rot etc.

My fuel tank leaks some, but as long as I drive fast enough the flames don't catch up to the jeep.:dan2:

Possibly another Elbow Problem.
There's a little steel elbow coming out of the sending unit on top of the tank. They rot.
Hopefully it's at the filter. I believe there are 2 or 3 10mm or 7/16 bolts to break on the cover. (mine is off right now for obvious reasons.)

Thanks fellas...there was so much crap up in there I couldn't even see the filter at first glance. I think that is where the problem is.
