was going to PA yesterday and the water light came on, im assuming about the only thing to do is just change out the fuel filters and drain drain the frame rail housing?
cant remember when i last changed them, dont think it was more then 20k miles.

You can change the filters but I'd try the drain on the frame rail first. And if the filter housings have drains I'd drain them as well. I dont think it should require filter changes but I've been wrong before.
The one Ford I helped after a bad batch of fuel was fine after the frame rail drain. YMMV

I dunno about the 6.0, but in the 7.3 any water gets collected in the fuel bowl, all you have to do is drain that.

changed the fuel filters, got any and all water out of the upper and lower filter housings, put some diesel fuel additive to help out with water.
question, why is it still on? Bad fuel? im assuming this is water in the fuel warning, since it is not in the 2003 ford manual.

Does yours have 2 filters and the drain by the frame rail? I assume that you got water out? A quick search says it might be a bad sensor in the separator or its shorting.
Also I am not sure if its a code that needs to be cleared. I have a code reader you can borrow, not sure if it works on diesels or not but I can check the book.

yea i have 2 filters, one on the top of the motor, one on the frame rail. both got changed and cleaned out. It goes out for a while, then comes on and stays on till i turn off the truck. once the trucks off and i turn it back on its out for a bit, then comes on again.
seems to run fine.

hey shane, when you had the manifold off (the cover thing that has the drain screw) did you take a look at the "water in fuel" light sensor. good chance it is that sensor corroding up due to the water build up. I forget how much they are at the dealer, but it is real easy to install. it would also be nice to reprogram it with new ford specs at the dealer...there is a tsb out for water in the fuel which basically tells the tech to pretty much replace the sensor and reprogram the pcm.
just my two lincolns...

i never took the cover off, but i will have to to repair the drain plug properly. i read on the ford forums that the senser is likly to fail so monday i think ill roll over to ford and see if i can get a new sensor and drill out the bad drain plug.

yeah...I never knew the price. I never care about the price, as long as the thing is under warranty. sorry man. if I "come across one", I will hang on to it for you. I will give you a deal on it. just $119.99. :flipoff2:
