If you're new here, introduce yourself. Even if you aren't really an offroad noob.

Tell us who you are, what/where you wheel, or just say 'hey'.

Apologies to 'daggo66'. I accidentally deleted his check-in while attempting to merge threads.

Here is what he originally posted:

I couldn't find a welcome or hello section so this looked as good a place as any. I'm a former CJ7 owner (1980 AMC CJ7 Renegade) back in the '80's. Sold it at the end of that decade because kids were on the way. I started getting the itch again when my neighbor bought a TJ Rubicon. My wife bought a KK in February and I couldn't take it any longer so last month we sprung for a JK. It's an '09 X. I absolutely love it!

When I had my CJ back in NJ there were tons of little known places to go wheeling. One of my favorites was a hidden trail right in my own town. You had to actually drive down a small river to get to the entrance next to a train bridge. I didn't know where to go around MD until I discovered this site.

I saw the listing for Green Ridge State Forest and the description of it being just a fire road, so I figured it was a good place for a first time outing wife my wife. It may not be what some of you are used to, but it was certainly more than a fire road. In some areas I was concerned since I was running stock 17" wheels with the stock on-off road tires. There was some 2 1/2 foot water holes with some thick mud right after and a sharp turn with a steep incline. I was pretty impressed with the JK's performance and we had a blast. A Neon may have gotten through there during a drought, but not through that mud and water and certainly not over the rocks.
Whenever we heard a motorcycle or ATV approaching from behind we pulled over to let them pass. Every single one of them waved, said hello, or thanked us. There was also a group of 3 jeeps there that we spoke with briefly. After we got home we had to spend 30 minutes pressure washing the mud off before I could even begin a regular wash. We will definitely be going back there soon.

Here's a picture where we pulled over into one of the several campsites along the way:

Hi all,

Checking in here from Mid-MD. I’ve heard about the site/ group from a co-worker and wanted to see what it is all about. I currently drive an 02’ Tundra AC with minor modifications as of now, but have hopes of starting - completing an SAS setup within the year. Looking forward to chatting with yawl and hopefully catching a few local meets and trail rides:cheers:

Hi, I'm Dave with a Jeep Rubicon. I used to be a member but apparently got deleted from lack of activity. I have a degenerative disease that caused me to lose my license. I respect the club's decision to delete me as a member would like to ask for reinstatement. Who is in charge these days? Is Jeepin Jay still here. For what you all got me, I owe my allegiance to you all. Thanks.

Jeepstream checking in, again. I've been here off and on over the last four years while I was trying to make and keep my 86 CJ7 on and off road worthy. After many hours in the garage and too much $$$, I finally gave up chasing rust, worn-out parts (210k miles) and dealing with carburetors. I traded it in on a new diesel Grand Cherokee. :brow:

Now I'm going to take my time finding a clean TJ (coils and FI!) for my topless offroad fixes.

Here's the old girl in all her glory and just before she was traded in on the GC:

Did they take it as a "cash-for-clunkers" trade?

Did they take it as a "cash-for-clunkers" trade?

Yes! It was the 4.2L with automatic. The "official" :usa: MPG average was 15. I needed a 5 mpg difference with the new vehicle if it was an SUV to get the full $4,500. The 2WD diesel GC was rated with a 20 MPG average. The one thing I was afraid might get me was that I had it tagged as Historic. Fortunately, the only criteria was that it was less than 25 years old and registered and titled for the last full year.

Real-world MPGs are a bit different. I got 10.5 on the highway driving my CJ 500 miles to Charlotte for the trade. I've average 24 MPG for the first 3500 miles on my diesel GC. :brow:

Well done. You're a bastard for trading in a classic to be destroyed and participating in this program, but well done. :flipoff2:

Well done. You're smart for trading in a rusty jeep that would probably need a frame and tub to stay road worthy with an underpowered motor to be destroyed and participating in this program, but well done. :flipoff2:

So I'm just got a new job which has me relocating from Phoenix to the Baltimore area. I'll be living in the Owings Mills area. Been Jeeping since 2000 on and off and am originally from NJ and came to Phoenix in 04. Been rock crawling ever since.

I have a 1999 TJ Sport 3 1/2" RE short arm and 1"BL on 35 12.50's on 15 x10 in aluminum rims. Super 30 in the front with a ARB and a 8.8 with limited slip in the back. Armored up and ready to roll as soon as the bank account is a little padded.

I also enjoy Judging WE ROCK events and wheel with Rachel (one of the Marshall's) and got to know the Rich's and hope to get back into it when they make it to Rauch.

I also enjoy motorcycles and have a 1997 Suzuki Intruder.

Welcome! I'm very jealous of some of the trails I'm sure you have gotten to wheel living in AZ. It's cool you are involved with WEROCK and the Riches! Make sure you get up to Rasuch Creek to check out their local racing series as well. They are always needing help and they are as good of a group to get involved with as the Riches.

Call Appalachian Offroad. They are THE best offroad shop in Maryland and probably have the best rates/prices as well.

If it's on I83 it's probably illegal. The club does not promote such activities. But if you are looking for great legal places to wheel, Rausch Creek, Crozet and Big Dogs are the best places within a few hours of Baltimore.

I've been away from the site and wheeling for a while and I'm ready to get back in. It's been so long since I've been here my old username had been deleted. I've got to get my heep "trail worthy" again. '98 XJ is what I've got. I've got a new set of leafs to go in the back to replace my sagging RE and new winch to replace my old one that the motor seized up on me.

The kids should be good to go now. I've got 6 and 4 year old sons that should enjoy a trail ride now. I finally have a garage to work in at my new house instead of having to work out in the parking lot of our old townhouse. Humping that floor jack up from the basement was always fun. I just need to make some room in the garage and get the spare tire off the roof so I can get to work. Hope to meet some of you at Rousch Creek when I'm done.

Sean. Not really new just gone for a bit. Still on the shore. No wheeling for quite some time. New job (finally). Re-married. My wife has a Jeep (modified CJ on old Ford Bronco axles SOA, hi-steer, 35 MTR's, 4.0 FI and auto from a Chero). I'm passively looking for a beater/project. Just popping in to say Hello and hope everyone is doing well.

Hello everyone...

I'm David, just moved to Edgewood MD. I have an 03 H2, definately not a mall crawler. Its spent half of its life in the rocks outside of Ft Huachuca in Sierra Vista AZ. The other half in and around Fargo North Dakota, playing "Swamp This..."

I'm not new to wheelin, been doing it for the last 20 some years. My beginnings were in the depths of the Mojave desert at the age of 15 driving a 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. I've been in every extreme I know of and still love it.

I'm snooping around looking for a club to join, some place for my 12yo son and I to be active. Ran into a guy at the post office in a Jeep who mentioned this club, and Rausch Creek as a favorite destination.

A couple of pictures never hurt so here goes.

This is the entrance to Carr Canyon, its a 1300 meter long 15 degree rock slide. Keeps the noobs out and safe at the bottom.

Lots of places to go wheelin out there, just go out past the south gunnery range (Garden Canyon Rd). I strongly recommend taking someone with you as a spotter, and dont be out there after sunset.
If you use garmin, I can send you some offroad maps you can load for out there, with some interesting waypoints.

Hi,

I'm new to this site, but not new to 'wheeling. I did take a few years off for things like kids, school, work, etc... but recently got a Jeep and am itching to hit the trails.

My rig: 97 TJ Wrangler. 2" spring spacers, 245x75x16 g/y a/t tires (30x9.5ish), nerf bars, fender flares. Next mods will be an eaton/detroit truetrac in the rear, some 265x75x16 (32x10.5ish) trxus mt tires, and possibly some yukon axles. I looked for a good while to find a TJ with the options I wanted - 4cyl, 5 spd, softtop. I specifically wanted this engine/trans because it gets the 3.92 1st gear, 2.73 xfer, and 4.11 diffs.

I am not really new to this site nor new to wheeling but, I am also not a veteran of either. I originally joined years ago and never post an introduction, so now that I have recently rejoined I feel that it is about time.

I come and go here, I visit a lot some months and not at all for others, never really post much but, do read a lot(of all jeep forums). I met a few creepers in person (67temp, davenjeip) and a couple others but, have never wheeled with any. Between family, work, school, and keeping the Jeep (and my other cars) alive there has not been much time for anything else. I graduate this May so hopefully soon I will make enough money and have enough time to really wheel.

1993 Jeep Wrangler 2.5L - 4” skyjacker, .75” shackles, 1” body, 35” Mickey Claws, SYE & Tom Woods shaft, ’87 Cherokee D44 w/Detroit and SSBC discs, front Lock Right w/TJ D30 shafts, 4.88 gears. I think that is all that is worth noting.

My name is Kevin, I live in the Glen Burnie area and I'm a 2 way radio tech. I picked up a basic 99 Cherokee 4 or 5 months ago for a second Daily driver. It proved its worth in the snow and I only managed to get it stuck twice (my own stupid fault) I fell in love with the truck and I'm kicking around the idea of a JK. I'm really looking forward to getting out this summer and doing some camping/light wheeling.

I have only been wheeling for a year. I have allways had 4X4 trucks and did some "mud/trail" wheeling but I don't count that. This is my first jeep and I have reached the limitation of what a uniboty can do. I am going to beat the crap out of it and keep it alive long enough to get a trailer, and tow rig. Then I will be looking to move to something made just for this grate sport. I was at last years 2ed from last Big Dogs and had a efing blast. Looking to do 7/8 level trails this year and I will be at all 4 events. I am a member over on MJC and the dudes over there suggested I check you guys out because there are some good people over here. I'm Raphael. I am also a member of BlazerForum.com, GM-Trucks.com, FullSizeChevy.com, TriStateMudcats.com, and a couple of other forums.

I (regretfully) just sold my '96 Chevy Blazer 4x4. It had a 2" Rough Country lift + shackles, the 4.3L Vortec V6, and auto tranny.

I now drive an '03 Silverado 2500 HD 4x4, with the 6.0L Vortec V8 and the NV4500 manual transmission. It's a power beastie, though I'm sure that due to the weight and longer wheelbase it won't be quite as nimble on trails. I plan to add the maximum legal lift and tires, hopefully 6" lift + 35s. I suspect this truck will still do very well once I've done the mods. I don't think I want to use it for any hardcore rock climbing, but I do want to get it nice and dirty every now and then.

Since this is my only rig, I don't plan to beat it up much. In fact, I am still considering buying a beater Jeep for my primary trail rig. We'll see how that goes, as it depends on my finances.

I'm just happy to find some MDers that like to trail! Now if only MD would designate more places for us to do it...

You guys may actually know the jeep I bought.

I bought Burton Simmonds jeep ...

Already having a BLAST with it. Once through MD inspection, I plan on getting it to some of the legal places and start wheeling it every chance I can.

I've been on the trail with that whole family of Jeeps quite a few times. Since you're local to me, I'll keep an eye out on the road for you and hope to see you, and the Jeep, on the trails.

Thanks man, I welcome the chance to meet you.

I really do hope to get to know some of you and really learn a ton from all of you.

So, if I can toss out a question, where is a good ( legal of course ) place to get my feet wet and start really testing out my driving skills ( or lack thereof )

Any recomendations would be appreciated.

Name is Kevin, I was a member on here a few years ago but my account got deleted and I never really introduced myself before so here it goes:

I've lived and wheeled all over:

Iron Range in Virginia, MN
Crandon, Wisconsin
Moab, Utah
Anchorage, Alaska
Grand Junction, Colorado
Smokey Mtns, NC
Northeast GA
Northeast FL
Paragon / Rausch Creek
GWNF
ETC.

Currently I drive a lifted Hemi Commander but I've built a couple TJs and an XJ in the past....I'm still looking for another beater XJ for the trails if anyone has any leads.

I live in Delaware, but I've lived at the eastern shore of MD and you can find me there most of the summer

anything else just ask.

Chad Here, currently stationed in san diego but i'll be transferring to Pax River MD next year. I've had a few rigs, but the only one I still have is my 91 samurai. It's got about 6.5" of SPOA, 6.5:1 t-case, rear lock-rite, and by the time that I move out to MD, hopefully a front locker, and 33's in place of the 31x10.5's it's got right now. I had an 89 yota with 4.88's, f/r lockers, 4.7:1 4cyl t-case, and 35's on it, and also an 02 liberty with a 2.5" frankenlift, lockers, and 31" MT/R's.

I got in trouble for not posting here first so i figured that I would drop in lol. If any of you guys race bikes I'm also big into the drag scene as well :P.

I'm looking forward to finding some people to wheel with in the NE. All of my experience is from woods in TX, the rocks in Clayton OK, or Katemcy TX, or from running around Bigbear, Ocatillo, or Pine valley in So.Cal. I've been out of the game for a while now, but am really excited to get to play around in the goo and rocks again.

If you like wheeling, you are going to hate Pax River. Not too much to do around here.

Bawls
05-25-2010, 12:34 AM
I'm willing to travel to wheel... my main reason for choosing pax is that it's 45 minutes from MIR. Are you stationed there? It can't be any worse than san diego. There is absolutely NO mud and if you want to go wheeling you pretty much have to drive 2.5-3 hours of to big bear which is lame. That's why I got rid of my Liberty. You know it's bad when a 2.5" lifted liberty will idle the majority of the trails lol.

96zj
05-25-2010, 12:10 PM
Not stationed here but live here. 2.5 to 3 hours would be a short drive to go wheeling around here. You are looking at 5 or so to get to Rausch Creek.

Keep in mind that there is NO legal wheeling in MD

Not true. Just not any good wheeling.

Assateague Island, Worcester County, MD
http://www.nps.gov/asis/orv.htm
Yearly permit required ($70). The area consists of 12 miles of sand beach within Maryland and additional beach South into Virginia. It should be stressed that this is nothing more than flat sand.

Green Ridge State Forest, Allegany County, MD
http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclan...reenridge.html (http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/western/greenridge.html)
Green Ridge State Forest offers an 18-mile loop trail located on East Valley and Stafford Roads for off-road vehicles. It should be noted that this trail is a non-technical fire road.

Also there might be some other stuff in Allegany or Garrett counties but I am not looking it up to find out.

Hi everyone,

I'm a new jeep owner, who is looking to get involved in the jeep community. My only experience on a trail was as a passenger and it was amazing! So far, I've only taken the doors off...

Does anyone have any tips for accessories/parts? I've bought my spare tire cover, but that's about all. I'm thinking of getting a cover for when I leave the top off, as I've left it out in two storms so far. Any suggestions on the top or other accessories?

Thanks for your help and I look forward to seeing some of you out

Yes, we camp back in camp 6 up the hill on the left hand side as you go down to the mud pit. We are normally camped the closest to the treeline where the mud pit is. Does that make any sense?

You got it, I took out the stock 46" front springs and installed a set of 52" springs off the rear of a blazer and took out the factory 52s (they were beat and not worth saving) and installed a set of 64" rears off an 04 1500... they flex great...

Hey folks! My name is Jared and I'm from the Buffalo, NY area. I probably have met some of you at some point wheeling at Big Dogs, Rock Run, Rausch Creek, etc. I wheel a ZJ buggy that is going under the knife in the next couple months for a 1 ton swap. I probably won't be posting here much, but may be perusing the classifieds section for HP60 and 70U stuff.

I'm in Keedysville,MD
Just outside of Shepardstown, WV.

Just moved to the area for work.
I moved from Al and before that lived in Reno, and Vegas.
Used to do a ton of higher speed offroading in the desert's outwest, and
got into trail riding, and mild crawling while in the south. Tight trails were certainly something new.

Sold the Jeep, and CBR to make the move easier, and will be looking to pick up another mildly built TJ or CJ.

I'm a welder. -- About to gear up education wise to become an inspector.
Mostly been doing ironwork as of late, but trained in Pipe, and looking to get back to doing code pipe work. Weld just about anything steel in every major process.

Also sold the welding trailer to make it a little easier to move.
Had a Lincoln SA 200 outfitted quite nicely.
Welded buttery smooth, and was dead solid on x-ray.

I also got a teaching degree.

So, appears to be a great forum here, and will be monitoring the sale adds for a good TJ or CJ. Might actually build up a scrambler....

See you around:usa:

Welcome to the forum. We are a pretty mixed crew of trailriders, crawlers, racers, and a few show n shine guys sprinkled in.
A lot of us do some/most of our own fab work. Some better than others. Try not to pick on our welding too much.

I'm going to move your thread over there.

Hey guys quick intro, my name is JT and I am located up near Harrisburg, PA. I have a 88 4 Runner with some stuff done to it. Came over here looking for some tech and parts for my build. Unfortunately I don't get out as much as I would like with two kids under 5 and a busy job doing environmental work for bridge replacements. Here are a few pictures of my rig.

Thanks guys, as for parts, you never know I already have all the parts to do the Toyota axle swap, but have a set of 1 tons sitting that I may swap in, but would need some other stuff to build them along with larger tires.

Thanks for the kudos guys. I started beating it up the first trip out, I built it to wheel not to look pretty. I'm a painter for a living and just wanted it in one color so I quickly sanded and scuffed it and put a coat of grey sealer on it in my garage. I have literally two hours prep in it, while it was flashing off was when I decided to go ahead and paint it. I went to work and mixed up some color and grabbed some clear and shot it. Up close though it looks bad compared to what it would look like if it was painted in my booth and properly prepped.
I hope to get to more trails this year and get a cage built to hit the harder trails it was built for.
Thanks again for the welcome.

-Uniden PRO520XL with a 4ft Wilson flex antenna
-Full dash LED retrofit

Hey all,

My name is Darren, I'm in Frederick, MD. I drive a 1980 International Scout II. I'm working on swapping in a 345ci engine, and there are a few parts that I still need to track down. Here's what she looked like before I pulled the four cyl out of her a few months ago:

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_wua0dPIQaag/TGFooS-zc8I/AAAAAAAAAwI/jqvmnaDz-4I/s1024/P1000045.JPG

My DD is a yellow 05 Mustang GT Convertible:

Hopefully once I get the engine in my Scout, I can join in on some trail rides, etc.
