If i had to do it again, just buy a 14b and be done with it.......its much cheaper then using a 60 and boring the spindles....:doh:

I have no clue about Dodge rear 60 but in case you want a ford 60 I have one from a 79 ford that has been stripped of all hardware, had a disc brake conversion done with new rotors, calipers and bracket and had the bearings replaced for sale for $600.

johnny, do you think I'd be better off down the road going with a 70 or 14 bolt than a 60?

I'm swapping my rear 60 out for a 14 bolt soon. After watching Johnny bore his spindles, I think I'm going to take the lazy way out.

Go with a 14 bolt and a detroit locker.

I had a Dodge 60hd here for awhile. It had tons of cast ribbing on the bottom which would have needed attention. I've heard some dont need to be drilled for 35spline and the spindle is fine stock. I never paid enough attention to check any.

I personally run a 14b. They are cheap, easy to gear, have a pinion support bearing and can gotten in a variety of widths. Big downfall is clearance(big lip on bottom) and cant go lower than 5.38's.

Get a dana 70U smooth bottom. They are just as heavy as the 14bolt, a little tougher to track down in Junkyards than a 14 bolt. You can't get a detroit as cheap for a D70 as you can for a 14B(detroit fits inside the carrier of a 14B).

but most 14bolts have a limited slip and you can not install a detroit in a LS carrier.

if i had to do it over i would use the 60 rear agian. i would just have some one else bore the spindles.

or just go more in dept and build some axles from the ground up.:lol:

I pulled about 30 14b covers off looking for a 4.56 carrier and found 1 gov lock out of all of them. Your right you cant detroit a limited slip but you can still weld them:thumbsup:
