Need some advice on my mud bogger build. I have a CJ7 on Ford D60 axles, 44" boggers and Chevy 454/700r4/231C.
Problem is I don't believe the 231C will live past the first run, 700r may not for that matter. I have options available and have reached the point of analysis paralysis.
1. have the 700r4 rebuilt (I'm told if built right it can handle the power) and have the conversion shaft and kit installed to mate up to the Ford 205.
2. Replace the 700r4 with a turbo 400 and convert to ford 205.
3. Replace chevy motor/tranny/tcase with a Ford motor/tranny/tcase.

other suggestions?

Buy my 460 lincolin, pull drivetrain, scrap body for some cash, sell the 9in., and you ll be set :)

I think you'll be good. i wouldnt worry until it blows. talk to Dannon(kgb's) over the mountina in Shannondale. he';s got 700r4's and 231's by the dozen and makes them live up to all types of mud racing.

Very good to hear. I do plan on running it as is until it blows but need a plan for when it does ultimately fail, even if the plan is to just replace the chain or same tcase.

I mudraced my jeep for a decent while. It's got a fairly built nitrous LT1 and a 700. At the time, I ran a 231. No issues.

itll live for a little while, after it goes id look into the th400 for 205 or at least th400 to a later model fullsize chevy drivers drop tcase out of an 88 or later truck.

"later model fullsize chevy drivers drop tcase out of an 88 or later truck"

Didn't know there was such an animal. Thats a great idea! other option I didn't think of was to swap axle tube sides on front 60.

if its just gonna be a mud truck get a 2wd th 400 and built a sprocket off the back with a very large chain. Enclose the chain around a box and attach a yoke and be done with it.
