My YJ is on it's last leg. It wont get out of 2nd gear. We think it needs a throttle body, but we can't find one. It's a 1990, 2.5L, 5speed, TBI. We have tried all the part stores in Glen Burnie and looked everywhere on line. No one seems to carry one for my year and engine size. I'm pretty sure Blake looked at Crazy Ray's for one last weekend. dose any one know of where to find it? some how my friend came up with this, is this right for my jeep? my jeep is not a Sahara.

Thank you.

If you click the part # it gives you all the applications. Looks like the right part to me:
JEEP WRANGLER (1987 - 1990)
JEEP WRANGLER ISLANDER (1989 - 1990)
JEEP WRANGLER LAREDO (1987 - 1988)
JEEP WRANGLER S 1988
JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA (1988 - 1990)
JEEP WRANGLER SPORT (1987 - 1988)

Thank you! My friend tried telling me that yesterday, but i was so hassled with this jeep, then we just bought the XJ that was posted on the general forum so we had that to get home and insured... that throttle body just needed another set of eyes to see if it will work. I never thought buying a part for a jeep would be that hard.

thanks again,
Becky

ordered the part listed above and it's not a throttle body, it's a fuel injector which we already replaced. so I'll be sending that back. any idea on where else to look for a throttle body?

i dont know for yj's, but the tj 2.5 upgrade was using the 4.0l throttle body. have blake check the bolt pattern on one from crazy rays, i would imagine they are the same.

Yes 4.0L TB will work on a 2.5L. You just need to reuse your sensors. I got one from ebay a while back.

Thanks guys, trust I'm kicking myself for buying such an old jeep. Do you think it can be rebuilt? I know only a little bit about engines and I'm not the mechanic working on this. but, we are sending the intake manifold out to be rebuilt and I don't see why the throttle body can't go too.

Thanks 96ZJ. I always let those comments slide online. this sport is male dominant and I realize that. but, the fact you caught that is cool, thanks!

Im working on this thing, going to tear the t/b and intake manifold off, check for cracks in both units, seal her up with new gaskets and see whats going on in there. its the only thing let i can see that could be causing this problem unless its got a bad sensor, the 90 year is computer controlled but has no OBD support, so im guessing here.

It will start and stall, a few times then start normal but you have to feather the throttle to keep it running, when cold after you get it started it will not go, it tops out at 20ish mph, floor it and it does nothing just chokes and sputters a little. after it warms it runs alot better but still bad, tops out at 45-50mph so im thinking there is an intake leak that is sealing better after it warms and expands. also another clue that its running lean is the exhaust is really hot, like burn your hand hot. It almost feels like a plugged converter but i have good flow out the tailpipe and the exhaust is leaky so it shouldent be to restricted. I know I have an air leak at the throttle body base because RPMS raise when spray starter fluid in that area.

weve tuned it up fully twice
02 sensor
intake manifold gasket once
compression check-good
new fuel injector
ignition coil
other things im forgetting.

Any other ideas about this old POS before we put historic tags on it next year and do a 350 swap. or hack it up into a trail rig, it goes great slow.

Darwin has a 90 2.5 TBI and had a very similar problem, I'll see if I can get a hold of him or have him post up

Getting back to where to find a throttle body, have you ever tried junkyarddog.com? It's a site that sends part requests to a sh*t ton of bone yards, works well for the smaller shipable items.
