My TJ is going under the knife shortly. I am planning on swapping in an auto I guess a 999 from an early TJ makes the most sense. What do I need from a donor jeep besides the Trans? Alex do you remember what all you had to do?

Trans, Torque Convertor, Flex Plate, TV/KickDown Cable, Shifter, Shifter Cable and Brackets, Trans Mount, Cooler Lines.

Probably forgot some parts also.

It will be a 32RH. Be sure to get a huge ass cooler (stacked plate, not finned). Go with a the cheetah RMVB from Summit.

You will need a TJ auto trans mount, its a 2 piece mount, 1 piece mounts to the skid, and the other to the trans and holds the cat, Grason did a custom shifter mount setup for mine, so im not sure about what you need for a shifter setup

You will also need this
http://www.extremegearoffroad.com/images/tera/Auto_Trans_Seal_lg.jpg

-extended seal for the rear output of the trans to mate to the np231.

Cheetah RMVB is what i run, they only make it for a TF999, but the NP231 and TF999 have identical internals.

Do I need that seal if I am using a 300?

Yep.

On my YJ I bolted the 300 right to the 999. I used no extra parts.

I had to use the extended seal on mine.

Did you use a clocking ring?

No, I did redrill the case to get the clocking I needed.

Probably why you didn't need the seal.

any reason I can't use a 999 out of a cj?

You'll need a CPS relocation kit from Hesco.

would it be worth dealing with the relocate if I can get a good working 999 for 100 ? or do you think i should hold out for a 32rh

Save ur self and get the 32rh. With the cps relocation you have to worry about gaping it properly and shit....mine works great but it would be alot easier with the other trans

Prob not. I think the last time I was looking around parts houses (like AJs) were charging around $300-400 for a 32rh.

I know you're pretty set on the 3spd for the rig, but FWIW I had a 32rh in my TJ, swapped it to an AW4 and much prefer the feel of this tranny offroad.

AW4 > 32rh

AW4 > 32rh

Find a manual valve body for one though.

i run a powerglide, cool little shifter but requires alot more setup than what grason runs.

realistically how much would it cost to convert from a manual to an auto .... i can do all the wrenching myself .... but i want plug and play so i need to buy all the parts to do that...

what about the electronics ..... what has to be done ? isent the trans shifted electronically ?

btw i am looking at possibly doing this swap on an 03 rubi

03s are different than 97-02. The factory auto is the shitball 42RLE, not the TF series.

Do you already own this 03 Rubi or are you buying? Cause it would obviously be cheaper to just buy a Rubi with an auto

Just find one with an auto if that's what you want. Rubi's are pretty much a dime a dozen these days.

x2. BUT, again, all Rubi autos are the 42RLE. They're a craptastic excuse for an auto.
