View Full Version : Air Intakes For Gasser Tow Rigs

I was thinking about an intake on my 09 Ram 1500.
TruFlow makes one http://www.trueflow.com/xdi.php and the other front runner is the one from Airaid http://www.airaid.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=300-237
The Airaid bosts that it is a true cold air intake. But looking at the way it gets that air and how open the filter is I just don't know that it makes a difference. The mandrel bent intake tube on the xdi looks like it would flow better.
Anyone used either of these products on other cars or trucks?

Why not just put a better flowing filter in the stock box? Do you really need more air then the factory intake provides?
Most of the time intakes just make nice trucks obnoxious with whistling noises etc.

I don't want it sound like a turbo supra, just seems like a lot of the guys on the dodge forum think it helped a lot. But.....they are mostly retards that pick the xdi one because it's pretty.

I'll say this. I put the XDI intake that TrueFlow gave me on my old truck right before I went to KOH the first time. Over the 5200 mile trip I saw an honest 1.5mpg increase. No bullshit. There was more whistling yeah but who cares.

It doesn't come in flat black.......
Doug, That is what the guys are reporting on the truck boards for this one as well. I might give it a try. I'm just not impressed with the airaid one. I don't think it's sealed enough to the outside to be a real cold air intake.

my gasser has a brute force cold air intake. you will get a good bit of engine noise. but the throttle response is a bit better. read the hemi boards, theres a few tricks to the fly by wire to get it even better.

I know you didn't ask about Hemi under glass but I got it and sold it. I felt no improvement at all and gas mileage went down. I am now running a Ebay cheap intake I wrapped in heat tape and I am seeing a 1 to 1.5 mpg over my stock intake. I have a 05 1500 quad cab with the hemi. I also have the air ram scoop. Not sure if it made any difference but it does direct the air from the grille directly at my filter.

I have a AEM on my 1500 and it made a noticable increase but sometimes the drone is annoying. I dont mind the noise most of the times but it gets old on long hill's.
