ok i need some advice , i bought my jeep a little over a year ago, i didn't know anything about jeeps , the seller completely mislead me on the condition , my frame was rusting out pretty much , well i took it to a great offroad shop to have my rear frame fixed where the shackles are , well thats been fixed but i've been told the cross member that the gas tank bolts to is rusting too , its been welded to give mea few more years but either way the frame will be a issue , i've thought about doing a frame swap but thats pretty steep for a guy who's never done one before , i found a 1994 yj for 1500 bucks , it has a big dent , and some rust but the frame is solid and it has ac, the 4.0 high output engine and auto trans 160k miles, it doesn't have doors but i have half doors. , im not sure if buying that one would be the best idea to have a long term jeep like some members here have , but w/ my 92 it runs and drives now but i know that im gonna keep fighting this rust , my game plan was to sand my frame down and paint it with por 15 black coat , then use a under coating body gun w/ the 3 ft hose to spray the frame w/ rust mort and then coat it w/ por 15 black coat , but after hearing the condition of my frame its made me wonder if its not better to go to something like the 1994 and abandon my 1992 after doing a ton of work to ( new plates welded in , new body lift , brakes , ect ) any advice is really appreciated , thanks

I say buy the one with the good frame, swap over everything better off your one with the bad frame and then sell off all the remaining parts. The frame is very important, especially if you are going to be wheeling the jeep and plan to keep it around for a long time like you said.

Oh Yea, I would use a 4 ft hose...

Like he said the frame is the most important part. What does the 92 have drivetrain wise?

Thanks CoveJeepsXJ
the 95 has some surface rust of the frame , but it looks early enough to catch , the floors are solid , i did feel some surface rust on the underside but it isn't bad , all around i think the 94 is more sound , but 160k on a auto tranny worries me

CJTHING,
my 92 has a 4.0 6cyl and its a manual tranny , i love the jeep its awesome to drive , its got 186k miles n it but the motor and clutch have been replaced , i've talked to other off road shop who have said they could remove the tub , cut off the back half of the frame and make a new one , but im sure it would be super expensive , alot of repairs have been done to it , and thats one reason im hesitant to jump on getting another jeep , plus after being ripped off with mine it makes you second guess buying another one that might have issues worse than this one , the 94 has a huge dent , a little rust on the fenders and hodd , and some surface rust on the frame , the good things are its a 1994 , from what i can tell the frame seems solid , it has ac which mine does not, but its a auto and has 160k miles , plus i have a small pop up camper i pull w/ my 92 and don't know how much stress that will be on the 94's tranny , also on the 94 it needs bumpers

if you want less hassles buy something newer. if you dont like the auto, get on craigslist and find another vehicle with a manual. you may have to pay more then the price of the 94 but that should (aslong as you check it out first) mean less you have to spend to keep it going. the only thing i would definitly do with the auto towing anything is add a tranny cooler, but that should be done even if not towing. if your unsure when it comes to looking at another vehicle, ask someone that your comfortable with to take a look with you.

I have 145000 on my 93 tf999 auto. Fine so far. I have changed the filter and fulid and added a cooler.
