The gear post got me to thinking that I would really like to watch in person how to set up gears before I try it myself. I was just wondering if someone who does gears would like to hold a little work shop that we could possibly pay a few dollars to watch someone install gears and possibly get some pointers and tips on how to do it right the first time when we give it a try.

I think that would be pretty counter productive to them having a business. If you can get someone to do that I need a good sales person and would love to have you on board:flipoff2:

Otter gave a one day welding class ...what's the difference?

welding is pretty general from my point of view. setting up gears is a very specialized area. Lots of people can weld, lots. Not many people can set up gears correctly.

AOI could sell them the gears. They try and mess up badly destroying the gears or the whole axle. AOI sells them new gears and does the install or sells a whole new axle (rock jock 60).

Or someone takes the short lesson and says fawk this it's way to hard I'm taking my pile to a shop.

We may be interested in doing this. I feel it will be hard to do with the amount of difference in wrenching levels.

If someone were to read the pirate thread, I feel like that would give people a close approximation of where to start. The "course" could go from there.

Do you guys use setup bearings or press everything on and off constantly?

anyone who is thinking about differential work should buy one of these books for $30. We sell them.

The little pinkish-red and white book that comes with the Yukon stuff is very helpful. It has corrections for just about any pattern to be made with gear marking compound. The next problem is all these cheapass gearsets around. My last 9" set I got was impossible to get a perfect pattern. I had to run them and then reset after a couple of days out wheelin.
