Ok so in preparation for taking my son out wheeling for the first time I am wondering about seating. I currently have a set of PRP seats I am putting in. I also have a booster seat (bought just before they changed the law  ) and a normal car seat. This will just be for wheeling. The jeep isnt street legal so I am not concerned about what is legal and what isnt. I just want safe and secure.

I did some testing last night and the booster seat fits the PRP seats nicely. Seeing how the booster seat uses the shoulder and lap belt it doesnt have a 5 point harness. That part doesnt bother me as I do, granted I'll be getting a 2" harness for the passenger side so ignore the 3" belt in the pics.

My question I guess is would you run this setup for normal wheeling? I dont intend to roll or flop with him in there but there is always that chance. When all 5 points are connected he will be securely held in place and I dont foresee him going anywhere. My concern is that the shoulder straps wont be ideally setup for him but I dont know if that is a problem as they will be held sort of in the ideal place by the booster seat. They certainly should cause any spinal compression or anything.

Or would you run the car seat in the PRP and let him use that 5 point harness?

Or just get him a PRP seat of his own? Mind you PRP makes 2 style kid seats. The Preemie which he'll be out of in no time or the Preteen which is probably to big for him. To further complicate things they make a full blown seat with mounts or they make one to fit in your adult PRP seat and use its harnesses for the kid. Which then makes it pretty much like my booster.

Or am I over thinking this?

Crappy cell pics of the booster seat and him in it.

I think it looks fine. Are you going to have the anti-submarine belt to prevent him sliding out the bottom, or does the booster seat hold him in there well enough to prevent that?

It will have the anti-submarine belt. It just wasnt in the pics.

I'd say you're good to go with that set up. I'd trust it with my kids.

X2, you're good to go with that set up. In fact, if you do roll, he'll probably fair better than you.

That looks like a good fit, I'd run it for sure. When the time comes, get him his own pre teen seat.

The only thing that may even be an issue is the shoulder straps rubbing on his neck on a trail ride.

Remember the more comfortable he is the better time you will have.;)

In the front seat of my Scrambler I run a booster seat with the factory style 3 point belt. In the rear just a lap belt with no booster. Baby seat base strapped to the floor in front of the rear seat. Anything that looks remotely hard everyone gets out. Kids are 9.5, 5, and about to turn 1.

The oldest had done Paragon, Tellico, Moab and Farmington before she was 8 months old.

Including you? This explains how you've kept the Scrambler so straight all these years. :flipoff2:

Yeah the plan is for a 2" harness on the passenger side with padding for when he is along.

I'm trying to figure out how to rig up a cheap monitor so he can watch movies if needed. :D

I was thinking the same thing, he's growing up quick. I think he was teething last time I was at Frosty's.

Looks good. I use the Simpson car seat and rachet strap down to the seat in the back of the YJ. We just picked up a lightweight full face helmet for the boys to wear trailriding at Toys R us.
