Any local stations sell this stuff?

Just got a new truck yesterday and it will run on E85 as well as normal unleaded. Supposed to have a little more horsepower and torque running this stuff, so I was considering using it when I tow, but nowhere around here seems to have it.

e85 produces less power that regular unleaded e85 is less efficient and nets less mpg.

It's definitely worse. You can buy it at the gas station on 198 just south of Rt32.

x2

Nearly everything out here is a pretty heavy mix of ethanol (E15 or so). The TJ hates it, worse gas mileage than ever and has a hell of a time pulling the trailer now. 4.88s getting installed this weekend partially to deal with that.

Ethanol has less energy density that normal gas. You'll get either worse gas mileage or less power.

It is possible to make more power with a very potent mix of ethanol. (I need to look up why again). If you can shove a bunch of air and fuel into the engine it will do better, but again still get much worse mileage than gas.

There's a station (shell?) on Rowe/Besgate and another on Route 2 that carry it. All of our GOV's take it and we are required to run it, must provide explanation if we don't.

They closed all of their pumps about a year ago. They now only do service at that station. It was the only one I know that had the e85.

I know he bought a '10 silverado which is E85 certified, When i worked at the chevy dealer we never had any issues with the E85 except in some early model minivans that the General forgot to program the computers to tell them it was okay to run the stuff. Had to drain the tank put regular in let it do a learn cycle and it would be ok.

Personally id just run 87 regular. Its still a pushrod truck motor. It'll be fine

No shit? Man, they still have the nozzles and everything on the pumps. I've never stopped there though, just pass it daily.

Indy uses 100% Ethanol (fuel grade) and they make a crap load of HP out of those little Honda engines.
Ethanol yields less mileage than Methanol and both yield less than gasoline.

Not sure where I heard it, but best guess is fullsizechevy.com . Researched a lot of places, but mostly was just looking to figure out if this thing of cutting out power to four of the cylinders actually worked or not.

Lots of what I read says that it has a higher octane rating than regular 87, which is where I think the info I got was interpreted from. However, I also just learned that the way they calculate octane ratings doesn't really apply to this stuff and sort of provides a higher rating than it deserves.

Wouldn't mind trying it once, just for the hell of it. But kind of dissapointed that I'm finding out my information was false.

I know its hard to fathom that people on internet boards might not be the experts they proclaim themselves to be, but its a forum, believe what you read at your own discretion.
