So I've started the rebuild of my 91 YJ. So far, it's been painted, new axle seals, replaced the racing seats that were in it with stock seats, and painted headlight bezels. On my list of things to do are: herculiner on inside of tub, new tires, new rims, replace fog lights, new front bumper, put on the TJ rear bumper I have for it, new shocks, and suspension lift (ditching the shackle lift on it currently). here's the before and after pic for the paint job and the change from full doors to half doors. I'm open to any other good ideas as to what I can do with it as well, so feel free to offer up.

Looks pretty good! A set of TJ fender flares would add some more 'flare' to it

Yep that'd probably look pretty good

When you herc the tub, try to find a way to spray it. The result is MUCH better than if you rolled it. I've done both, and the sprayed looks a helluva lot better and gets all of the tight spots perfectly.

Lose the bumper extensions. Just a personal preference. :)

Looks good with the new paint!

thanks, yeah i plan on removing the extensions on the front bumper, sand blasting it and painting it black. How much further do TJ flares stick out than stock YJ flares?

Umm, I think they may be like 1/2" to 3/4" wider. The main difference is a larger wheel well that allows you to run a bigger tire with less lift. In order to do that you tape the body up around the fenders, clamp the TJ fenders on, trace the pattern with a marker then trim the tub.

You could probably still mount them without trimming the body but you would be drilling new mounting holes still.

Here is a little write up:

Ha! I was googling for pictures and came across the guys website who bought my old YJ in 2004!

so i don't have the equipment or the place to spray the herculiner on, so i've opted for rolling it on this time. any tips to make it come out clean?

lots of prep.
X2

Bolts that you remove from the tub; wrap half way in tape then thread back into the holes until you bottom out on the tape

The more you prep the longer it will last and the less it will peel.

i suggest a brush over a roller, better control of where it goes. last time i lined anything i did it out in the sun and it aided in curing. sun also made it easier then flouresent lights to see spots that were missed or barely coated.

sounds good, will do. i've already taped off a good bit and threaded wads of tape into the holes in the tub i want to stay clear, just need to mask off around the doors and i should be ready. thanks! i'll put up pics when it's done
