I took the RV for inspection and the shop that did it locked the side door, which has a deadbolt(that I have a key for) and the factory lock. When I dropped the RV back at my garage I locked the driverside door, hopped out and headed back to work.

Came back a few days later and unlocked the dead bolt to enter the side door like I normally do..... Well shit, the lower factory latch is locked, and the driverside door is locked, both of which I don't have keys to! They are probably very similar to any other 1991 GM product.

Anyone think they would be able to get in? The door and frame are both constructed of aluminum.

Which leads me to another question, why did GM use 1 key for door locks and 1 key for ignition?!

Does your RV have an emergency window for the rear? If so, those latches are easy to jigger.

Any of the windows unlocked? Some of the sliders can be opened pretty easy as well.

Might be able to call a dealer and have a new key cut with the VIN.

umm take a pic of the drivers door. If its a typical door like on a pickup or car I could probably get in it with this

What would make it an "emergency window"? The windows are all slider that have a spring loaded catch, I haven't thought of a way I will be able to release the catch from the outside

That is what the AAA tow truck driver showed up with, it is an aluminum door and frame, he said it would damage the door if he tried to use it and a lock picking set needed to be used.

I have several older single sided GM style door lock keys you can try.
If you have any keys that fits the slots try wiggling it back and forth in and out while turning it ever so slightly barley putting any tension on it. Sometimes you can get lucky and get the pins in the cylinder to line up effectively picking the lock. Especially if the lock is well worn.

LOL ok.

I also just talked to a GM dealer down the street, they should be able to cut me a key, I'll find out what the fee is tomorrow morning when the service dept re-opens.

do any of the cargo compartments on the sides go under the couch or anything ? if they do you could try getting in that way. I know 1 of them on my camper goes under the couch and another goes under the seats for the table. It would be easy to send a kid

My parents RV has an emergency window that fully releases from the bedroom to act as a fire escape in case of a fire in the front of the RV.

Gotcha, don't think it has one of those. In that situation I would need my ally apple.

I thought about attempting to remove the roof AC unit from up top, but figured I would see if anyone close by I know could just pop the lock for me first.

Make two calls....

Call a locksmith and see what it would cost for them to come out.

Call a window place and see what it would cost to have a window replaced.

Work it out from there LOL

Most slim jims I have used for VLOs are aluminum. Although we still make people sign off on damage liability, etc.

I'm from p.g.county and I love challenges like this....creditcards...coathangers...a 1 piece antennae...are all your friends.....you'd be surprised how well a thick plastic "for sale " sign works for sliding in the crack between the top and bottom halfs of a window and forceably sliding it against the latch can open the latch......

Or so I've heard..................

That one sounds like a good idea. I've used similar tricks before. I'll have to check the design of the windows next time I'm up there, but that may work.

To bad your not closer! I'm a locksmith and have a car opening kit from hell. You should try parting the front passenger door and grabbing the lock button if possible with coat hanger or car attenna.

Dealer should be able to cut you a key or give you a key code that a locksmith can cut.

Wanna borrow the slim jim or a MCOT (multi-car opening tool) basically looks like a really deformed coat hanger that goes under the window.
Wondering if with the inflatable wedge if you could get in there without scratching or bending the aluminum.

You need to think of the doors more like whats on a house. Totally different construction than a car or truck. Gently prying the door open to to get to the door lock is a bad idea. Going in threw the windows or a locksmith that can pic the lock are your best bet.

Try contacting who ever built the coach. GM might have built the frame but would have nothing to do with the body.

What area are you in? I've had a few other offers to borrow lock picking sets or let someone try. These are the tools the tow truck driver had in his hands when he was looking at it. He said he really thought he was going to mess it up and didn't want to try. Since they do this stuff all the time I'm thinking he was probably right. My friend always uses the line, "Trust me, I used to be a tow truck driver" so I think I'll take his advice on this one

You're right about the door construction. It is a spartan chassis, and the coach is by Tiffin. I assumed since the ignition key is a standard GM key for it's era there was a good chance the door was a GM lockset also. I will see about contacting Tiffin. I really need to get this through inspection though so picking a lock or getting in through a window is probably my best bet.

Call rippey and tell him to bring a VLO set over. I'm not familiar with the door construction but I don't see how a slim jim would damage anything.

You're pretty skinny. Rip the 12"x12" hatch open and climb in from the top. I would think you would have the crank open vents in the living area and one in the BR. Or you can give me 20K and Ill give you my trailer and take this off your hands......

None of our lockout kits will work for your motorhome. I've got some lock picking equipment, but doubt my skills using them. I would call Pop-a-Lock or a locksmith. I think Pop-a-Lock normally has fairly reasonable prices, it couldn't hurt to call and ask...
