View Full Version : Who Rides?

Wow, I haven't been here in a while (9/23/09). Been to Rausch and GWNF a couple times since then. Still haven't got the 8.8 in under the TJ.

I started riding again, and since the offroad community seems to share a passion for MX'ing and street riding, who else here do I see on the roads around here? There's gotta' be a few of you I wave to.

Just picked Ginger up Dec 8th and I'm stoked for the weather this week:

Job security?

In Baltimore City, that means keeping the drug dealers employed.

I ride ATGATT so hopefully I won't be one of them.

Should be a good week to dust'er off and get dirty again. Up near 70ºF on Sat :D Thinking about taking a day ride up near Chambersburg and off of PA Rt. 30 through G-burg and down PA Rt. 15 to see my uncle in Caroll Valley near Ski Liberty.

that is a pretty silly concept. just do the speed limit and don't weave thru cars or run from the police and you'll be just fine.

All The Gear All The Time is a silly concept? No amount of gear replaces resonsible riding, but to say ATGATT's silly is kind of silly in itself unless you're looking for that job security (I'm guessing you're in the medical field). :D

I speed as much as anyone does, but you don't have to tell me not to weave or run. I wouldn't get away anyway since my my old man's in the court system and pretty much all locals and staters in this area know what and where I ride b/c he can't keep his big mouth shut. Oh well.

i wish i could show you guys the pictures of people literally torn in half with full gear on, helmet, etc. even with the fancy ballistic suits or whatever. i just think they are really dangerous from what i have seen. and no, i haven't ridden, couldn't pay me enough money to get on one. i don't care how safe you are, some moron hits you and you have no control over that situation.

I don't know how u do it Mindy...does it get to u after awhile? sleep...etc.

I use to ride when I was in my 20's but that was in Florida...less traffic. I don't think I could ride up here.

QFT.

That is why your other comment was just wrong.

Safety gear and doing everything right only gets you so far. Same as in any other car/truck, but no safety gear and acting like an ass will end badly almost every time.

Other drivers is one reason I stopped riding, but I still want to ride everyday it is nice. :mikey:

what was that one thread that Scott posted up a few years ago with Taco Bell boy?
He posted it and we went back and forth a bit b/c that was some nasty sh!t posted...with out a warning...I don't think that Taco Bell could be reopened so much body chunks was left in the place in the ceilings and all.

PS: other driver's was my fear when I road...F.O.P's..................Fawking Old People in Florida will get u killed.
I always made a habit of looking at the driver's face and eye's to see where they are looking..9 times out of 10 grandma and grandpa were not looking at me and just pull out like driving Ms.Daisy.

My worst near miss was riding on the on ramp at the beginning of 70 in Bmore right near SSA. Right where the 5 lanes come together I was riding in the left lane. Riding right next to the drivers door of some old lady in her Mercedes. All the sudden she starts merging into me. Thankfully the person in the van behind me was paying attention too because I had to grab the brakes pretty hard to keep from getting hit. I rode for about 1/2 mile flipping the bitch off.

I thought my brother was a goner one night when I saw the deer dart though his headlight in front of me. Scared the crap out of me.

STILL I can't wait until I get home and get the bike out. Although the battery is probably dead at the moment. I forgot to disconnect it before I left. :(

last OT thing i'll post. it doesn't get to me which is why i am good at my job. the hours suck and it is physically hard work but i have never lost sleep over a case or had any nightmares. what upsets me more are the crimes committed against people that are left alive, the dead are at peace. it DOES affect me in choices i make. i won't ride a sportbike or let anyone i care about ride one. if there is ANY chance of black ice, i slow waaaay down b/c i've responded to entirely too many fatals due to skidding on ice, little things like that. i have yet to respond to a scene where someone has off'd their dog though...

back on topic for mister JeepinJosh.

I have a bunch of friends who work at the local FDs and they won't get near a bike b/c of the same reason, and ridicule me for it (the whole guilt trip blah blah blah). It's like everytime someone finds out I ride (only 3 or 4 people I'm friends with ride, so it's mostly ignorant comments, lol) it's the same thing: "Ohhh that's so dangerous! You know, it's the other people you have to worry about." Almost to the "T." LOL, like I don't know that? Really? (BTW, that's not focused on anyone here — just a comment on my friends in general). It seems that since they've never seen the good side of riding that they're outlook is jaded somewhat ... it breeds pessimism and paranoia, for them anyways.

I worked out west as a ski patroller for a while and saw some absolutely disturbing ski accidents almost every week ... but I still ski and do the same crazy sh!t without letting that influence me the best I can. Because when it all comes down to it ... stuff happens, and there's nothing we can do to control it. So we have to eliminate controllable risks as far down the line as possible. If that means to not ride/ski at all, then so be it. It's all about the risks you're willing to take.

On another off-topic thingy: has anybody seen the red/orange CJ-2/3 at that shop behing Reese Firehall on Old Westminster Pike?? I haven't stopped to look at it, but it's for sale and looks like a nice resto.

Exactly, having fun in life(and life in general) is about calculated risks to me. Ya'll who ride bikes are nuts though, I have done a lot of crazy shit that I felt were "calculated risks", riding a bike is not one of them.

I'm on board with the supermoto! :) That's what I was getting when I considered it for a hot minute. I have a 1.5 mile ride to work on a 2 lane road and there are actually trails connecting my house to my office. Very low risk, still not worth it for the benefits to me.

Dunno' why it didn't work for you Ripster ... all I see is the dreaded Red X ... and that's a sweet bike. I love the XRs. My buddy just picked up a red CRF-450R that totally rips it up. Buttloads of torque.

TotalMotorcycle must have weird hyperlinking rules because it won't even let me link to that pic w/o taking me to the homepage: http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2005models/2005-Honda-XR650L.jpg

I'm buying a H-D Softail Custom, it's already in country, just need to get it financed and pick it up. I ordered a new H-D wide glide mid-January and they can't get one here anytime soon. So, I switched to the next closest bike. Hopefully have it within the next week.

I always wanted a crotch rocket, probly good for me that I never got one. Likely would have killed meself or gotten seriously injured with my adrenaline addiction.

I've been riding since last summer.

Currently have a 2008 250 Ninja. Made the deal to trade it in on a 2010 Sportster, which should be in either this week or early next.

Nice. Daven good luck on the purchase, you're gonna' have a blast on that thing though in a different way than the Ninja ... what made you switch over? That new 88 Sportster or whatever they're calling it is mint.

Cowboy & joop, I'll be looking for you — in the good way.

I just put a new pipe on the 1125 (Barker's) ... almost split my pants with the insta-wood it induces

The Ninja was a great bike, but it just didn't fit me well. Nothing wrong with the bike, but just not the right bike for me.

As it turns out, the dealership called me today and they are having trouble locating a bike for me. Tried upselling me on a Nighster or talking me into the overpriced used one that I test drove. Told them that I had to have the bike we agreed upon, so we'll see what happens.

You wouldn't be interested in a Heritage Springer by any chance would ya???? My wife wants to sell her's and move up to a full fledged sport tourer. Its a '97 but has less than 1k miles on an HD factory rebuilt EVO motor.
