Some of you may know I sold last years class winning rig to fund another project. Well I could not stay away from RCrocs class 1.
Ballpeen Racing is proud to announce that Mike Haran will be spotting this year. The YJ that we will be using belongs to Mike and with my guidance we think we can make it a winner.
Some spec's=
4.3 Chevy V6
Manual Valvebody T350
Flipped Dana 300 with NorthWest Fab cable shifters.
Used RE 4.5 lift
4.10s with a Detroit in the Dana 30
4.10s with a factory track-lock in a Explorer 8.8
33/12.5/15s
On with the pictures

more power than an I4, V6 is probably shorter, and he can sit it back further in the engine bay to balance the weight better in the vehicle and probably more trans options. Would like to say its weighs less, but can't say for certain.
Any particular reason you guys went with the 4.3 V6?
Stock drivetrain was a 4 cylinder manual trans. While the motor in it was pretty good for a 4 cylinder, we wanted something with more power.
Automatic vs manual is pretty obvious.
Main reason is, I already had the motor, trans, and t-case combo, with a Jim's Performance harness waiting to go in something. Motor is a 2000 W series out of a blazer.

According to Novak, I4 weighs 340lbs and the 4.3 is 425 lbs.

there is a hose that goes from that open port down to a flare fitting that is on the back side of the factory exhaust manifold on the driver side
i just put together the top end of a 2000 350 and it looked just like that, the hose your looking for is semi flexible just like a piece of kinked exhaust pipe, and then it is wrapped in insulation that is silver

We have a set of conversion headers without the port. I see no reason not to plug it. Thoughts?
Fitting are -6AN. I think there is a third line that needs to be plugged (charcoal canister).
Just let me know for what size fuel lines for the supply and return. I think one is 3/8 and the other is 5/16

Kane,
Go to Crazy Rays and find a truck withe the same injection system and cut the fuel lines off long enough from the connections and just use Fuel injection hose and a couple of clamps and it will work fine. That is the way I have mine set up and it works fine.....I second the idea of getting Jims Performance to do your harness. He can remove everything you want from the system. He did mine and it was a two or three wire hook up.
Jim already did the harness work. I think every thing is worked out. Just waiting on the ups man

The headers that came with the motor are from Advanced Adapters for a Toyota pickup. They would have worked fine for a passenger side drop t-case. We on the other hand are running driver side drop. The driver side header dumped right into the drive-shaft.
http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk300/ballpeenracing/O10%20YJ/toy43headers.jpg (http://s283.photobucket.com/albums/kk300/ballpeenracing/O10%20YJ/?action=view¤t=toy43headers.jpg)
I had to take pie cuts out of the collector to turn it away from the shaft and added a 3 bolt flange while I was at it. I added header wrap when I was done.
http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk300/ballpeenracing/O10%20YJ/MikesJunk1.jpg (http://s283.photobucket.com/albums/kk300/ballpeenracing/O10%20YJ/?action=view¤t=MikesJunk1.jpg)
Here is a helpful hint for when you are working with Header Wrap. Soak the wrap in water before you start. Cuts down on the fiberglass dust and helps it stretch. When it dries it will shrink some and get even tighter.

Nice tip on the heatwrap! I run all DEI products and they do a great job with keeping temps and the amount of heatsoak down. Within a few minutes of turning the truck off after running hard you can rest your hand on the exhaust pipe or the muffler.
I'm also going to be running their fireshields on my transmission shifter and other heat sensitive plumbing after having the trans shifter cable melt at the last race leaving me with only 2nd gear. I hope between the shields and the wrap I have really cut down on my fire risk. I have spilled trans fluid on the hot wrapped exhaust and it did not flash. The reps told me it won't stop the fire, but if it can keep the temps of the exhaust below the flashpoint of ATF it will save my ass.

3/16" or 1/4"? Just running some of the same for ribbing? Is it bolting to the bottom of the frame rails or are you adding sides like the last one to go through the frame?
Curious as I just put one on mine. Wondering if its worth it to make some changes. I know I need a tad more bracing and probably a tie-in to the oil pan skid.

Skid is all 3/16s. I will be adding the tabs on the sides today, just like last years truck. Makes no seance to me to bolt it threw the bottom where they will hang you up or get mangled so you cant remove them.
I will be building the engine skid next week sometime and it will tie into the front of the t-case skid.

i know the jeep was originally comp cut, which accounts for the rear armor to make it look whole, but are you not worried about all the extra weight of PSC armor front to back?
The rockers would be run regardless, and we are not running the inner fenders on the front fenders, so the weight gain with the front tube fenders is neglible.
The rear corners, heavier family cage and the heavier motor should be an even offset in terms of weight bias.
We are pre-running some of last years lines on saturday so that will determine how things work.
I've got a couple ideas for decreasing the weight if we need to.
The corners/fenders are SniperFab armor. I could have gone with the aluminum ones GenRight sells, but that would have blown the "budget" for this rig, plus I don't think they would hold up.

It was great meeting you guys today. That Jeep really works well. Good luck with the season. Don't let Eugene inside your head.:alan:
Playing on the comp course was a great 1st hour for us. The rig is pretty much entirely different from last year so we got to push and find the limits. I swear it got even colder after you left.

Damn it, where did the horseshoe on the grill go. I should of kept that thing years ago.
that was a super clean strong running 4cyl.
looks great
Sadly, the horseshoes and Taz decal are no more. I still have to finish removing the horseshoe rust stain from the grill.
The 4.3 does have some pep. I was able to chirp the tires on the street while I was seating the brake pads.

Not that you care but the story behind that Jeep was that it was a camping Jeep that sat at a lodge where it was stripped. The theives took everything off of the Jeep. The guy rebuilt it on the cheap and replaced only what was needed. Hence the old half bucket seats and the aluminum dash that were in it, when I got it.
He traded it in at my fathers work. I bought it, then sold it to MDmike, then I bought back the 30" KO's off of it from Mike, he sold it to JR and then it came into you hands.
Funny where things go
It's a nice little jeep, and the tub/frame are in great shape. Shame someone decided to comp cut it. It would have saved some weight if I didn't need to add the corners.
It kind of worked out for the best that it was already stripped. I would have done the same to lighten it up.

The pitman arm we have now is 5.5" eye to eye and is just long enough to hit the stock steering stops. I'm not even sure what is on the truck now as it was one I had laying around. (truck did not have power steering when we got it)
We could use a 6" eye to eye pitman arm with just a bit of drop. Not a big rush but is someone had one laying around that would be great.

I'm the one that comp cut it. I had dreams of the 2.5/ax-5/231/300 doubler/60/14 bolt on XJ springs all the way around. I had everything but the doubler to do it, then the wife got preggo and Nick's Jeep came along.
The idea was to buy Nick's Jeep so I wouldn't waste my time building something. That worked out real well

We finished 3rd at the event. Brakes suck and the trans is shot. 1st course had plenty of power in first gear not much in reverse. By the shootout we had very little power in first and just enough power in reverse to get back up points but not enough to actually back up over anything. Haha
Trans will be pulled in the next week or so and I think we are going to switch to a TJ booster and master cylinder. Should be more better after that. :)

I think we need to find a 95 4.0 booster/MC to have it bolt up. The TJ will require some lengthing of the pushrod.
This is the difference between the 4.0 booster/mc and the 2.5l booster/mc

On the XJ the booster/MC differences are year not engine size. I'd be halfway surprised if the YJ was much different in that regard.
I had a small booster with a large MC on my 91 originally then swapped to a a double diaphragm with small MC from a 95 donor. The 95-96 bolt up no-mod to 91-94 while other years require swapping the pedal or modifying the rod (this is on the XJ). Rod modifications can get pretty tricky with fitment so swapping the pedals might be shortest if you can get to it easily. There are also changes in the brake fittings (changed from SAE to metric) so you need some adapter lines but that's pretty easy.

It's easily one of the top 10 mods I've made to the jeep overall.

I have a 95 YJ with the bigger booster and it works great. I remember Jeff from AOR saying 95's were a little bastardized and you could end up with either MC and booster.

I may pull the trans next week and start working on the super secret huge rear brake caliper project. Might even see if AOI has time to rebuild the trac-lock.
Transmission is rebuilt. Thanks to Southern Automatic Transmission Service for the rebuild.
We upgraded the brakes. Out went the stock 2.5l booster and MC, and in went a 95 4.0L Dual Diaphragm booster and Dodge 1500 1 1/4 Bore MC. The 95 4.0 MC with a 1" bore just couldn't do it. We also ditched the dinky rear 8.8 calipers and installed GM metric calipers. Speedway sells a Big Bore 2 3/4" piston caliper, however after bleeding the system and testing the pedal, this happened:
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs508.snc3/26685_594638542811_38003555_34403924_2242553_n.jpg
So a quick run to Advanced and now there are just standard metric GM calipers in the rear.
Other than that, jeep is ready for tomorrow.

I think it might rub just a tad...
If it don't rub, then it's too tall. Looking good!
Fender moved back, still need to open the wheelwell and whack the bumper a bit.
Shooting to be done by black friday.

For trailriding or are you moving up to Class II?
Building to Class II to keep it available for Club Comp use and trail-riding. I'm planning on spotting for Kane next summer. Who knows after that?
Jeep is home, and I rolled it out over the weekend to clean it up and do some wiring.
Here is how the Jeep sit now. I really like the metalcloak tube fenders. More uptravel and wheel well clearance, and the fit and finish is very clean. The flare is also removable.
