View Full Version : 2010 King Of The Hammers
Ok... Looks like the weather is going to allow me to monitor this. What is going on? Stu run yet? I hear talk of 4" of snow in the Johnson Valley area. That would be funny.

Anyone know what happened to Doug? Looks like he is back to spot 84 or so. Still have not seen AJ through the first CP.

I think its pretty good for using a satellite in the middle of the desert. I think an audio only feed would be nice but I think you'd be in the same boat with it being choppy. Although an audio only feed should require less bandwidth so in theory it would be better.

It would appear that way. I think the leader board is or was good for at least the top 10 and maybe all positions.

Congrats to Miller on his 5th place finish. Him and crew put in alot of wrench time and test and tune to have come so far in such a short time.
Stu; good job getting as far as you did. Getting there and LCQ were huge accomplishments in themselves.

What an incredible trip. I will be back next year, and I will have my truck. Words cannot possibly describe this place. I would estimate 25,000 people there for the race. Think of Big Dogs in the desert x100000000. Oh, and make all of the trucks the most capable vehicles you've ever laid eyes on.
The east coast guys made one hell of an impression. People couldn't believe we had so many EC fans out there. After seeing Doug, Lou, Charlie, Miller, and AJ go after it, I'm amazed that any truck can survive this kind of beating. They all did an amazing job.
I had the opportunity to go trail riding with the Savvy Offroad and Crawl Mag crew on Thursday. If some of you know mrblaine from pbb, I rode with him. His TJ is the mint green truggy thing. We ran Full of Hate.

Highlights of my week
Getting Doug across the finishline, because thats what we came to do. It was a long day and we overcame a lot but we made it.
Hammering on the rental Rhino with BB everyday and night. Big whoops at 40 mph can get a little reckless. :D
Riding shotgun w/Clayton for some good Friday night fun on backdoor. I hope someone got some vid/pics of that.
Watching Clayton drive Upper Benders Alley. He came within inches of making the impossible waterfall, and walked the rest of it like it was his 10th time running it. This we have vid/pics of.

Sledge was absolutely insane, rocks falling on people, people falling on people, I kept looking for a helmet. Even though I only helped at the masters pit, it felt great watching Doug cruise across the line. The other drivers I was helping weren't as lucky. Beating the rental Sequoia all day and night was a blast and I'll be there again next yr for sure

Ken Mercer's rig in a sad state of affairs.

A spectator found the rig rolled, burning, with Ken still belted in, luckily he was able to get him out of the rig and save his life!

Yeah, a whole story there, aparently Joe saved the guys life at just the last moment, if he hadn't been there, Mercer would have been toast. Freaky.

Mercer's rig is a fine example of why leaks suck. His tranny pan leaked into the belly pan, and the fluid dripped on to his headers while his was flipped over. He had a halon system, but it didn't work. He's lucky that he zip tied his leatherman within reach.

The last 5 mins of Clayton trying the near impossible waterfall on upper benders alley. Apparently only 1 person ever has made this climb in its over 5 years of being a trail. This is a place you dont want to break or roll. For those who have seen this waterfall, these pics/videos do it no justice.

Bosley is right, pics and video do absolutely no justice for this trail. We had a hard time walking up it last year, and I couldn't imagine trying to drive it.
