Well......took things apart and this is what I found.

How far do I have to take the case apart to get the output shaft out and swapped. I have a new one.
I also broke this.....which was brand new. We'll see if they replace it or not.

What axle gears you running? 37 stickies right? I'd get a longfeild cromo one and be done with it.
this is numijunior on the lunch break :)

You can use this as a guide. Marlin also sells a 30 spline output shaft upgrade but it's pricey at $499.
How did you break it? What differential gears are you running?

I already bought a longfield output. That's what I'm putting in it right now.
4.88 gears. 40" stickies. I broke what i expected to break first with the output shaft. The disco was a suprise.

Nice writeup...so pretty much completely apart. Fun.
40s are pushing toy stuff pretty hard. You may want to consider going to 5.29s as well.

I was a little dissappointed with the guy from pirate I bought it from. As much as you can be when you have obviously destroyed something by romping on it too hard. I pm'd him asking about it. He just said call trail tough directly. I emailed my pictures to trail tough with a brief email. I just got a response from them simply saying.....What's your address and we'll send you another one right away. How nice is that?

Did you buy it private party or through a pirate vendor?

He's light enough though that he should be ok.
If he went 5.29's he'd probably start snapping pinions. Deepest gears in a toy axle that I'd consider would be cryo'd 5.13's.

You have a source for the magical 5.13 gears?

Damn... I could have sworn there used to be vendors selling 5.13 gears all over the place... Apparently I was mistaken. For some reason I also remember guys saying that running 5.29's wasn't worth the the extra gears vs weaker then 5.13's...
But w/e cryo'd 5.29's it is :o

It looks like you broke the threaded portion of the output off. If thats what happened the output flange(in this case Dig unit) probly worked loose. Pretty common IIRC with toy case's and dig units. Used Red or Green locktight liberally on the threads cause you cant stake the end of the nut now.

thanks. The end of the shaft was in the nut.

i think the sami doesnt like shoot the moon...when i tried it last year, i broke a pinion, snapped the anti-wrap bar, bent the driveshaft, and twisted/bent/cracked the rear output all at once:p...but that was all because my old welder was kinda f'd up at the time and the welds on the anti-wrap bar broke:eek:

I though of that carnage after I posted. There was alot of parts destroyed that day...
Stu read the link... More than 1 person had issues with the nut and some had to grind it down. I did a bunch of research on these things before.

I'll check it when i put it back on but when i tapped the broke piece out, it was threaded in all the way flush with the top of the nut.

I also found that I need a speedo gear and the oil pump. Anyone know where I can get one quick?
