View Full Version : flipping a dana 300
Using cable shifters...is all that is necessary is upgrading the seals on the shift-rails?

I used Atlas shift cables, I don't know about any others that might be available.
You can't use the mounting hardware for the t-case, it is designed for the Atlas. You need to come up with something to mount the cables to the case. Mine is a knockoff of the Atlas hardware made to fit the Dana 300.
Also the Atlas cables have threaded ends made to screw into tapped Atlas shift rails. You either have to make an adapter to connect the two or cut and tap the D300 shift rails to accept the threaded shift cables. I made an adapter, but in hindsight should have drill/tapped. The adapters made the mounting hardware kind of long. I have a *very* slight clearance issue with the driveshaft.
Ironically, I haven't upgraded the seals and have some seepage.
I'm not worried about the shifters, I was going to homebrew something with the midwest controls cables.
I just want to find out if the D300 will puke fluid all over the place if I don't relocate the shift rails.

Mine doesn't leak anywhere but the seals. No other issues being upside down.
I just have regular single seals and it seeps, but not too bad. I am going to stuff in two sets of seals to see if I can seal it up tight.
The only other thing I did was relocate the breather to the top of the case (that used to be the bottom). Had to plug the old breather hole that was on the output housing.

The one in the BBR YJ seaps a little around the shift rails and thats it. I bolted in a used case and replaced no seals. If I had replaced the seals and it leaked I would hace been pissed, but sence I did nothing I am OK with it.:D
