I'm allready looking forward to this race. The last one was a true test of teams and rigs. It really takes a lot to finish one of these races.
Rausch Creek just announced that this course will be 90% go fast(smooth dirt roads) and 10% rock crawling with the rockcrawling portion being significantly easier then the last course. This will be closer to a 7 mile course.
Anyone else thinking about coming out this time?

rear axle housing...bent the passenger side to match the already bent/semi repaired driver side at the last rcrocs...sorta not cheap shafts have machine marks where they aren't supposed to. we'll run the motor as is for the rcrocs race, no need for a turbo for you jokers:chair:

Just so you know my engine was 180HP off the show room floor (26 years ago), with as light weight as it is I'll be flying. Got any high speed test sites near your house? I'm looking for something close by. I'll let you flog it too. Just remember to remove batteries out of cars before you crush them.:flipoff2:

key word there is 26 years ago:flipoff2: my engine is only 13 years old lol. there are some decent areas around natalie/marion heights that are pretty secluded with some really nice open stretches...doubt if we'll make it there at all before nov. 7 though.

Will I get shot or arrested over there? I've done very little wheeling on private property (with the owner) there and don't know my way around. Dean and I talked today about getting together before the 7th and beating/tuning our junk. Maybe I'll try Line Mountain too. Right now I've got about 10 minutes of seat time in my yard.:chair:

From the marshall of the event:
We have several Line Mtn. racers coming to this event as well to feel thing's out some. This by far will be the " easiest " of the courses run. ( read also: not stocker friendly easy ) This was never meant to be a high speed " flat track " type race like the Miler so plan on it getting harder from here. We love to simply toss a nice rock face ( or 3 ) in and say have at it. Yes we're evil and enjoy every part of it.
So if you want to get in and see how this type of racing fit's you, come out and have at it, this is your chance.........
Who wants to try racing, this is the event to try!

Appalachian Offroad is doing the race prep to my buggy for this race.
Thanks guys!
I decided I'd go for a show up and drive approach vs wrenching all week ahead of time for this one.
I've heard the course is going to be 90% go fast. Last time I drove to survive the race, and had the intention of being conservative. I ended up being severly limited by the suspension in how fast I could go due to crappy air shock tuning. AOI is doing some shock tuning so hopefully the suspension won't be so limiting this time. I'm planning to drive for the win not the finish, as long as the suspension isn't so bad the truck is going to explode.

It's at Tim's shop getting some tube work done, so it will also depend on if Tim finishes my rig. Which, according to Tim, doesn't sound likely.

I'd love to come watch... and even a little tempted to try... but I've been out of town alot already, and will be away another 7 days the following Wed... making it hard to justify to Wifey being gone another Saturday.
I'm really curious to see what this is like, if it turns out to be at all feasible in an IFS rig, I'm in for next season. I've decided I'm definitely doing Line Mountain.

Talking to Stu it sounds like AJ's new buggy blew the motor last night. Stu broke a knuckle on the first lap and doug got in a head on colision. He said doug is ok but broke the winch and made the restart of the race.

grason lost his fan and couldn't continue after the restart, bigelow was able to restart the race but broke down first lap, i think steering was an issue and bunny kept blowing fuses on her fan which knocked her out. Miller took 1st.

Have to say it was a good race, except for the FUBAR that was the start. Everyone was really friendly and willing to help out or share whatever you needed. I saw more guys run up to a team pitting and ask them to run parts out to their team broke down on the trail. The linemountain guys were cool, there was this one rig, green monster looking thing, had coilovers, regular shocks and airbumps, looked like hell, didn't sound the best... but he was kicking some ass till he lost a driveshaft on his last lap. I think grason is hooked and we are planning a rebuild for him this winter.

That was an intense race!
There were 31 racers.
I finished 8th and was the final rig to cross the finish in the alloted time. We had consistent times except for a few problem laps. We had a great first half of the race until we lost the tranny dipstick on lap 4 and battled a link bolt that kept coming lose in the second half of the race.
Then during lap 5 my transmission shifter cable housing melted forcing us to complete the last 2 laps with only 2nd gear. We would go to high range and it would be dogging the transmission too bad and generate tons of heat to the point of it boiling out of the dipstick tube. We'd switch to low range and the revs were so high the atlas was smoking hot and also boiling oil out of the breather tube.
This was by far the most intense workout my truck has ever had and it handled it great. The tuning Appalachian Offroad did on the airshocks was amazing. I was able to hold speeds through rough sections that would of destroyed the suspension last race.
After catching some air at 50+ mph I think I will add a swaybar to my list of upgrades for this winter :D

This = Pearson happy he didn't eat breakfast because i would have had some stained britches. Actually after the first lap, I think I got used to the speed and focused on the course and the rig more than the speed. That being said the first lap was quite a ride, not being used to sitting in the pass seat while sliding sideways at 50mph across whoops!
Very sore this morning. Who would have thought 80 miles off road would make every part of your body hurt. LOL
Mad props to Appalachian for making sure the rig would hold up to the abuse Matt put that thing thru yesterday.
I am hooked and will be back with a new rig to run this series in the spring.

The wife and I slept about 7 hours in the 4 days prior to the race. Thanks to Chris from R & S Auto and Custom Fab for supplying and installing all the tube work. Thanks to Dallas Rhodes of Rhodes construction for supplying fire wall material. Kaye grooved 50lbs of rubber off the tires and made everything look pretty. The paint on the Blister was still wet when we loaded it on the trailer. Pre running was my first seat time in the Blister except playing in my yard. Kaye did get to ride shotgun.
The morning of the race I literally fell asleep standing up several times. Dean Benner, Jim Cochran, and Todd Charged our rear shocks. I didn't have the time/money to do a tune up prior to the race. When we unloaded we had no power. We had 2 fantastic mechanics on the problem but, with out computer diagnostics and parts, there wasn't much that could be done. Chris from R & S and Brian from Crystal Pools and Spas did all they could with what they had and got us running at about 1/2 power.
We started late and ran 5 laps with 1/2 power, very loose steering, an axle u joint welded in place, and no front brakes. At the Start/Finish after Lap 4 Matt told us we were averaging 43 minute laps and there was 40 minutes left to race. "SEE YA!!" We hammered it the entire lap. Hard to believe nothing broke!
We finished the day and drove on the trailer which was a big accomplishment. Next season we plan to run the Rausch Creek RCRocks Racing Series and Line Mountain races. Now, to start on the upgrades and chasing sponsorship.
Thanks to all the people at Rausch Creek for putting this together for us. Todd and I had about as much fun as tow psuedo adults could. Todd was great and I really couldn't have done this with out him. Seriously I wouldn't even trade him for Lucas's Jon.
The day we got The Blister 7/21/09 work on it started about Mid September.

Erik Miller, Congrats on the first place finish
Looking over the splits I am very happy with the results.
All of my lap times were very similar with the exception of 5 and 7.
Lap 5 we pitted to find a lower link bolt missing a nut, a driveshaft slipping out of the carrier bearing, and to top off with fuel/coolant.
The link bolt/carrier bearing are both issues that I have continually battled. The fix for the link bolt is to safety wire it, there is not room for locking hardware due to the design. This is just the front suspension frame side lower link bolts, all other bolts have room for locking hardware and no issue with the bolts coming loose. The carrier bearing I still need to come up with a solution for.
During lap 6 the transmission shifter cable melted, causing extreme abuse to the truck on lap 7 which required us to stop twice to allow the truck to cool. Lap 8 we said OK, forget babying the truck, lets hammer down and finish this thing, which is exactly what we did!
All the issues with the exception of the shifter cable I knew about but thought with fresh race prep it would survive the race, lesson learned!
I need to investigate the shifter issue a little more and see if a simple heat shield on the cable will be enough or if I need a better solution.

I don't know. I had a plug in it but it had been there for a while and was holding air well. The tpms yelled at me about 4 seconds before it blew up. I was towing the light rig on the light trailer with the good brakes.....so it stopped pretty well.
I haven't looked at the buggy yet. I'll pick up a book today and go from there. I need to get it up to the shop.
I also ran over a nice rock in the pit area and it hit my tube step and pushed it into my rocker panel.

That sucks about the tire and your truck!
I would be all for donating a 1/2 day to the park to clean up some of the rocks in the staging/pit area. With a crew of 10 people and a trailer we could clean that thing up in 3 hours I bet(at least the main traffic areas).
I'm paranoid everytime I pull my trailer through the parking lot. I'm scared I'm going to catch the front of the enclosed on a boulder, slice a trailer tire, or get my 2wd stuck :)

Tractor/bobcat with a bucket would be much better... I've spent more then a few afternoons walking in front of a tractor at my brother's farm to get the rocks out of the cow pastures.

On the link bolt issue, I think we have some low profile nylocks that might work for you...not sure if they'd be the best solution or not, but they'll fit. congrats on the finish too man you deserve it.

Ha ha, I think I only had 80 of it. You guys looked awsome. To the point I was worried for your safety.

i thought you were further ahead at that point?...so that might've been a different one:lol:...the one i was talking about was when happick was losing his hood/slowing down, dom told me to pass him, unless you're just referring to me using 150% of my engine:flipoff2:
later on in the race i was over watchin in that section, and everyone was almost slowing down to a stop for that washout

When I heard it blew up I chuckled because I was thinking, damn that thing was getting it! 2 nights before the race I was watching some circle track race on TV and the announcer commented that motors run the best right before they blow up.

I don't have a tractor or bobcat, I do have a truck and trailer.
i've got a bobcat A220
It would just cost me 200 in fuel to get it up and back. Damn gassers.
If a few people chipped in you could get a bobcat for a day for under 200 plus delivery from sunbelt. And with a skilled operator you could clean up the entire camping/parking area in under 8 hours. Food for thought, also someone with a dump trailer would help as well.

Hell just dump the rocks off somewhere the side...no need to actually haul them off.

i never said anything about hauling them away, but a dump trailer and a bobcat would make putting them where ever you wanted very easy. move together as a team and when the trailer is full, drive off over to a washout and fill it up.

it didnt really surprise me when it happened, i was definitely running it hard, and it was still running ok, i had it up to speed with it knocking:lol:
im thinking its a spun bearing, i knew there was some wear on them but was hoping it would hold up for the race...no worries, i'm waiting to hear back from a source for a new engine...still a 4cyl, but slightly bigger:flipoff2:

16 seconds of my race.......it actually accounts for a lot more of my total race time than I'd care to do the math on.
