How do you guys feel about 7K trailers for what we do?

Mine is a 10k that really should be a 14k. JT's 7k is a piece of junk. I really don't have anything to compare it to.

What are you towing on your 7k trailer?

I know the zuk would be good. What about the zj. I'd say the zj is no less than 4k.

7K seems to be plenty adequate for me. I know the pile has to be pushing 4K pounds too.

Load it up and weigh it ...that's really the only way to know.

This is a 7k trailer. The ZJ was loaded down with camping gear also. It tows fine, never had tire issues etc.

Lets see. 3600lb truck. add about 600lbs in bumpers, winch, sliders, skids, and hd suspension parts. Then add like 100 per tire and wheel for the 40's that are going on it. Add about 500 over stock for the 60's.

How much do you think an average exo cage will weigh? Then the weight of the trailer. I'm going to be way over 7k with the zj and trailer.

Stu, I had the same concerns you're having. I bought a 12,000lb. trailer and I'm really happy with that decision.

My current one is a 14k trailer tagged as a 10k trailer.

I like that i don't need to worry about overloading it. This other one i'm looking at is an enclosed trailer. it was just so nice having one for werock. You can just pile your shit in there and it's out of the rain etc. I think it is just too light for my needs.

Would the ZJ with 40s even fit in an enclosed? I'd think it'd be pretty tall. A 7K enclosed is a bit odd. That doesn't seem to have much room for capacity.

I use a 12k deckover for my K5 and would only buy a 10k or larger enclosed. A great number of enclosed trailer are 7k and the trailer ways close to half that.

Planning to sell your old one?

I use a 24 ft 7k for my Runner. Truck weighs right at 4K. Never had an issue, all bearings are tight as new and tires all wear fine.

I've got a 7k lb trailer and it pulls awesome. I know Jeremy (typhoon) has pulled it before and he thought it was pretty damn nice also.

A lot of it is construction... C-channel frames vs Angle iron and stuff like that makes a big difference

If you rig doesn't fit on a 7k, it's too fawking heavy for its own good.

7k here too....

that ZJ wasn't light... trailer weight is about 1500, i figure the ZJ was about 5...so yea it was fine.

a 7k enclosed trailer might not be 1500 lbs though probably 2k+ though. seems small for a built zj. i saw the wight CJ on boggers at RCrocs on saturday go into an enclosed trailer. They had to put it on donuts to get it in though.

Don't compare a 7,000 pound trailer to what JT has. No offense meant, but his trailer is not nearly as nice as what most of us use in that weight rating.

You've seen my trailer (can't remember? did you borrow it once?), and it's a 7,000 pound that's been poorly taken care of. The weight will get over my comfort zone for the truck long before mine for the trailer.

That being said, it still doesn't pull as nice as the 14,000 pounder I used to borrow.

I think I'll take a look at it and see what it's like. Mine says 10k and has 7500lb axles under it and is way overbuilt.

The door height on this one was 6'8". The zj is getting lowered a bunch when the new axles go under there. I'm going to cut whatever I have to.

My trailer is a raited for 7k and my Scrambler is about 5k. I did upgrade rims and tires just for the piece of mind.

Agreed my trailer is a POS. It is deffinatly not a 7k trailer. I wanna say it was like a 5k or 6k maybe if I remember correctly. It was enough for my light (sub 3k) trail rig but was no match for stu's pig. The smaller lighter trailer was a good match for my trail rig and was more suited for my weak gasser.

I know I am maxing out my trailer.

Its a 7,000 lb trailer, but it weighs 1,800

So I can legitimately haul 5,200 lbs.

I estimate my rig at 4,500 to 4,700 loaded

Add the trailer spare 30lbs.

add the 39 Krawler spare and wheel 75lbs.

that totals 4,905

so my whole setup behind the truck is 6,605.

We weighed out truck, goose, and both jeeps and shit in the truck and it came out to a lil over 21k:D

This is not accurate by 50%.
add the 39 Krawler spare and wheel 75lbs.

Keep an eye on craigslist. Matt and looked for a few weeks before we found the one we got. It is a 7000lbs trailer. We are probably on the high end of the weight but it sees to do just fine with all the stuff we had in it on the way to Dayton.

What are you guys hauling that you feel 7k pounds isn't enough for a single car trailer?

I've never even begun to feel like my trailer was overloaded. Even when I've loaded the trailer with my camping gear because the truck was loaded with pallets...

Yes, the 7k trailers that everyone got in the group buy a bunch of years ago were really nice.

I have a 7K, never really gave it much thought about not being enough. I do miss the 10K tri-axle I used to barrow, that towed like a dream.

Have you talked to Tony lately? Is he still hanging out over on FTW?

Not as much as I should, but every couple months. There are many still at FTW regularly. The truck just sits, He bought a DD Jeep about a year ago. Been trying to get him down to big dogs for a weekend.

LOL it won't be a DD for long if that happens. We can ask Bling how that works out :D:D

Numi, He is talking about an enclosed. Empty weight is about 3500. Once you add a rig you are 7000 lbs + .
