hood stacks legal in md?

got a diesel project going on and it would be far easier to route the exhaust up through the hood than down and out of truck... are they legal for road use? this is a non turbo truck and the stacks will be 2.5-3" around nothing huge.

I have no idea but my guess would be no. Pretty much anything that could potentially block visibility is illegal. I would bet even cowl induction hoods may be illegal. :confused:

I am pretty sure that the exhaust has to exit to the rear of the vehicle per state inspection standard. that would be behind the rear most tire or pass the cab. something like that.

yeah not going for beauty contests here like I said it would just be alot easier to install 2' of pipe then 20', but I had guessed they would be illegal due to visibility issues. looks like I'll be stuck trying to get a exhaust shop to fab up something

Behind the rear most entry point of the vehicle, including windows that open, so if you have a rear hatch on the vehicle, it has to go out the back.

lol yeah its slow but still gets great mpg, I like looks of the hood stacks on pulling trucks but I guess I'll end up going behind cab so i dont get nailed all the time in the truck
