How often do the electric motors fail for vehicles with the push button 4x4?

Depends on usage and vehicle brand, I would assume. I haven't heard too many issues with Toyota T-cases.

The guy down the street changed the one in his exploder once. I had it in my blazer and never changed it. The one in the 08 ram......never worked. But I think the switch was fine. The crap in the tcase and computer was messed up.

Ok i'm thinking about doing this on my 241c. Currently there just doesnt seem to be enouch room in the interior to have a shifter with linkages or even a cable shifter.

Does anybody know if chevy is a stand alone system for the 241c or if it is tied into the ecu?

I know some systems are tied into the ECU, as they will only shift if the vehicle is park/neutral, or within a certain speed range.

If you don't have room for a shifter, it means you haven't used the sawzall enough :D

You could also try setting up an air-actuated shifter.

Doug managed to fit a shifter in there.

There is really nothing to cut. My knees touch both sides of the cage. The tranny shifter is infront of my seat between my legs and the steering wheel is about 4" above the tranny shifter.

Yeah doug did it but he also didnt have a comfy seat or a drivetrain that is as big as mine.

That's not what I hear........:D

Why not swap in a different T-case? The money you will spend figuring out an electric shifter can get pretty $$$

Well I would need a t-case that would be 27 spline input and drivers drop. That leaves atlas, stak, or a flipped 300. Plus some 241's came with push button 4x4. I'm just trying to figure out how reliable they are and if they need the ecu.

It might be even easier if they require the ECU.... cause then shouldn't you just have like 3 wires going to the shift motor, then you could jump them, figure out what powers what and be done?

Most of the electric shifts looked pretty simply. I'm sure we could wire a switch to run the actuator full forward or full back pretty easily. It's the shift points in between that would require some sort of stop signal. I don't know. I'm thinking that we could figure out a way to mount a cable shifter in there somewhere. You can get the cables from midwest control and mcmaster pretty easily. We could mount them on a plate on the cage angled in so they don't hit anything.

There was a great thread on pirate about using mini air cylinders for shifting tcases. Look into that.

I no if you don't use them from time to time they tend to freeze up

I would love to retrofit one of these systems to my xj.. hmm, maybe something to pull next time I'm at crazy rays..

edit: apparently it has a TCCM *transfer case control module* in the passengerside kick panel in the s10 blazer/trail blazer. Now I don't know if it requires signals from the other computers, but its looking a bit more do-able the more I poke around the web.

what's wrong with cable shifters? gotta be a way to fit those in...right?

The problem isnt at the t-case or making linkages its more the room that is needed for the shifter assembly (LxWxHxshifter throw). That area needs to be within the reach of the driver and not interfer with other controls (it's a tight area). A push button takes up roughly 1 cubic inch probably.

How much room does a cable shifter take up?

Do you need high range?

if not, the lovell 3.57 might be your answer if its in the budget.

The few electrics I've played with are basically servo motors, so they will need some sort of controller. The one we have in the M725 is controlled by the front control module that is CAN bused to the dash module for making the switch work. Hella complicated, to the point that I never wired it up.

I'd guess an e-shifted 231C would be your best bet out of a s-10 blazer. The late 90s should have them. You might even be able to find a short shaft kit and 4:1 if you try hard enough.

I do know a little bit about these....

Durangos and blazers/s10's both had versions of them.

they are different but share a lot of similar parts. the models are actually NP233C and NP233d

I have some parts if you want to play around with them, i can only let the chevy parts go though. I had a complete version of each. I made a bastard case out of them. No idea if it ever shifted but i managed to make a mess out of something in it, i don't remember off the top of my head what

in the pics with both of them, the right is the NP233c, the left is the NP233d.

personally i don't really trust the electric shift cases but i guess it works...

Wow this is the closest thing to real tech the creepers has seen in a long time haha
